Man the weeks go fast!
Time for another shot at wine tasting. This one is another Zin – I liked the first one enough to give another recommendation from a coworker a shot.
We liked this one a bit less, although I think I liked it more than my husband did. He said that it felt “thick” and “spikey in the back of the throat.” I think the “thick” he was experiencing was a concentration of flavors (at least, this is what I think based on the info I found poking around on my Internets), which he might not care for, being more used to Cabernets. The “spikey” feeling could mean the wine was harsh, a quality that is (supposedly) not desirable.
I had a slightly different experience. I also thought the wine was “spikey,” but I didn’t think it was “thick” (or if it was, I didn’t dislike that quality). I noticed that it seemed very spicy and wondered if I was tasting the pepper that I’ve heard other people talk about when tasting wine. I also thought the wine was dry (which apparently isn’t just “less sweet” – according to one source, “sour” makes your mouth water and “dry” makes your mouth…dry. This wine left my mouth feeling very dry).
All in all, this one isn’t my favorite. I liked the Stonehedge Zinfandel from last week much more, but even though this one didn’t thrill me as much, I’m curious to taste next week’s selection!
Cheers.

Kathlyn, how have you been? I’m not much of a oenophile, but I do love a glass of white zin when out and I need to relax, or with a good meal. Your blog looks fantastic, and I love the ‘stats’ at the end of each entry! I think I read this in a little more than a minute, though
Lisa! Hello!! I’m doing great. I’ve been really busy with a lot of different things, so I haven’t been blogging or baking much lately. Loved your challenge – I didn’t manage to do it with the DBs but want to still try some recipes for Christmas. I think they’d make great gifts!
Nice to “see” you again – I hope all is well!!
